Tom Cruise’s Workout Routine and Diet

Tom’s Diet and Workout Get Him Ripped For Rock of Ages

Although I’m not big on celebrities, I’ve got to give Tom Cruise some credit for not only his acting abilities, but for getting in great shape at his age.  His recent Mission Impossible films and his newest movie “Rock Of Ages” (which I hear isn’t great; which is sad being a fan of 80’s rock myself), shows of a physique that makes many men half his age jealous.  I guess you can say his body… “rocks of age-lessness.”

No?  So that wasn’t my best.  Stick around and I promise a better pun.

What’s Tom’s secret to getting such a lean ripped body?

Is it some extreme diet, hardcore exercise plans, supplements, or even drugs? (Don’t underestimate what some actors do for a role)

The surprising (or not so surprising) answer is that it’s just plain old hard work.  Tom spends hours a day training for movie roles, and he also makes fitness and healthy eating a part of his lifestyle.  Gee, that sounds an awful lot like what I recommend…

For Rock of Ages, he spent 3 hours a day just training to dance, and that’s not counting the hour plus spent training in the gym.  It’s no doubt he got to where he is because he works hard.

The first big factor though to Tom’s, or anyone’s success in getting a lean body is his diet.

Tom Cruise’s Diet Plan

While not following a particularly structured diet, he has been noted as eating very clean.  His diet includes chicken, fish, vegetables, oatmeal, and other similar basic “health” foods while avoiding most junk food.  Pretty much common sense stuff.  It’s also been reported he’s dropped his calories as low as 1200 calories a day to shed fat.

Keep in mind Tom weighs around 160-170 pounds.  Women may get away with less and larger men may still need a little more calories even when dieting down.

Keep in mind abs are “made in the kitchen,” so while his workouts certainly play a role as you’ll see, without having a strict diet getting those abs wouldn’t be possible.

Getting Ripped Abs:

Ripped abs come from low body-fat and diet, and has little to do with actual abdominal exercises.

Tom’s Workout Style:

The key thing to note here is that his muscular build comes from old fashioned weight training.  Most celebrities when preparing for a role are thrown into the gym and hit the weights hard to pack on muscle quickly for a role, but Tom actually trains fairly regularly (staying in condition for future films I’m sure) from what I’ve heard.

While Tom doesn’t stick to any set workout routine, he’s taken some cues in the past from soccer star David Beckham.

Tom Cruise also engages in a lot of “fun” type physical activities like jogging, hiking, playing tennis and other things to keep his body moving.

Fitness Lessons Learned From TomTom Cruise

1. Make Diet and Fitness a lifestyle and work hard.  He’s been reported to be extremely disciplined with sticking with his regimen.

2. Want ripped abs?  Get your diet in check.  Abs are made in the kitchen and not in the gym.

3. Don’t stress over diet details.  Eat whole foods in moderation, and avoid the junk.

4. Tom took his training advice from an expert like David Beckham and I’m sure has had access to world class trainers. Luckily, you can learn the same techniques Hollywood stars use to build their bodies.
